Tonight, PalParks Black Box will be holding auditions for the Christopher Durang comedy, Beyond Therapy, at Community Center, 250 E. Wood Street, in Palatine from 7:00-9:00pm. The mission of this program is to offer adult actors in the community an opportunity to participate in a non-musical production in a smaller performance space. Performances will be presented in the Community Center music room beginning Thursday, May 18 and running through Saturday, May 27. All five performances will begin at 7:00pm.
Beyond Therapy follows Bruce and Prudence who are deeply into therapy. Prudence’s macho therapist is urging her to be more assertive while Bruce’s wacky female therapist wants him to meet women by placing a personal ad. She does not fully comprehend that Bruce has a male lover who is not pleased by Bruce’s desire to date a woman: Prudence. Bruce doesn’t know how to handle poor nervous Prudence and Prudence doesn’t know what to make of her unpredictable new boyfriend.
The production will be directed by Kristen Foley. Foley returns to PalParks Black Box after directing the program’s inaugural production of I Hate Hamlet in May 2016. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin the week of March 13 and will be determined by cast conflicts submitted at auditions.
