Palatine Park District's Cultural Arts programming consists of Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. Within these different art forms, a wide variety of classes are offered for all ages. See Parent & Tot for ages 1-3 classes and Early Childhood for ages 3-6 classes.
Palatine Dance | Ages 6+
For 30 years, Palatine Park District has been offering top rated dance instruction with the most affordable prices. Training students from ages 5 through adult, Palatine Dance continues to produce some of the most well rounded dancers with experience in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, contemporary, pointe, and hip hop. Palatine Children’s Chorus | Ages 4-18
Palatine Children’s Chorus (or PCC) welcomes all children ages 4–18 who love to sing! Singers are invited to enjoy a variety of musical experiences in the Sing with Me (ages 4-5), Do Re Mi (ages 6-7), Treble (ages 8+), Intermezzo, Concert, and Honors Choirs. PCC safely nurtures children’s voices, introduces all age groups to a variety of music, and offers each level appropriate, safe vocal instruction and music education. Their traveling choirs have performed all around the world, as well as locally for the Chicago Cubs, White Sox, and Joffrey Ballet. Guitar | Ages 7-12
Guitar classes provide high quality instruction in a class format that encourages having fun as well as learning. Beginning Guitar students will learn the basic chords, sight reading and songs. Students enrolling in Intermediate Guitar will progress to more advanced sight reading, new chords, new songs and will play duets with other students. Students must bring their own acoustic guitar.
Allegro Community Chorus | Ages 18+
Allegro Community Chorus is an all adult group with weekly rehearsals in the Community Center music room. The chorus welcomes experienced singers, as well as those with limited choral experience. Allegro performs a wide variety of music: from ballads, blues and Broadway to jazz, pop and classical. Solo and small group opportunities may also encourage musical growth. Allegro performs two performances each year at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center in Fall and Spring, and one summer performance at Fred P. Hall Amphitheater. Battle of the Bands | Ages 12+
Palatine Park District hosts two Battle of the Bands special events each year: Teen Battle of the Bands (ages 12-20) and Adult Battle of the Bands (ages 18+). For more information about how to apply as a participant, click here.
Acting Up: An Introduction to Theatre | Ages 6-8
Acting Up is an introduction to theatre for our youngest actors. This class covers all the elements of being in a full production: singing, dancing, staging, and memorizing lines. The fall session will present a musical performance at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center with an approximate run time of 20-30 minutes. The spring session will combine with the Class Act program where students will participate in the ensemble of a musical production to be presented at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center.
Act One Youth Theatre | Ages 9-11
Act One welcomes young, aspiring actors to work on developing their understanding of storytelling, blocking, character and performance. Each class will utilize movement and theatre games. All of the work done in class will culminate in a performance complete with costumes, sets, and lights at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center.
Class Act Youth Theatre | Ages 12-18
Class Act is for aspiring actors to work on developing their craft and prepare for middle and high school theatre. In each class we will focus on acting, movement, theater games, and scene study. All of the work done in class will culminate in a performance complete with costumes, sets and lights at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center. The spring session will combine with the Acting Up program where students will participate in a musical production.
Family Friendly Theatre | Ages 18+
Family Friendly Theatre productions offer a convenient local option for introducing children to the theatrical experience. Casts are made up of local actors in the community over the age of 18. Productions include both classic and original works designed for children. Shows are usually 60 minutes and are offered seasonally at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center. PalParks Black Box Theatre | Ages 18+
PalParks Black Box offers actors 18 and over in the community an opportunity to participate in a non-musical production. Performances are presented in a smaller black box performance space at the Community Center each spring. For more information on this program, click here.
Youth Visual Arts | Ages 6-14
A variety of classes are offered, including General Art for ages 6-7 introducing children to pastels, pen and ink, painting, watercolor, and colored pencils. Students will bring home artwork after each class. For ages 8-12, Cartoon Drawing teaches students how to draw funny faces and myriad expressions. Before the end of the class, the instructor will help students develop their own comic strip.
Quilting with Margaret | Ages 14+
Learn how to make beautiful and traditional quilts. Instructor Margaret Luba teaches the basic techniques of piecing, patching, and quilting. No experience necessary, however, participants need to bring a self-fitting thimble and materials are not included. Piecing and quilting done by hand. Machines are welcome, but not provided.
Paint Night at Palatine Hills | Ages 21+
Enjoy wine or beer while creating art guided by a social painting instructor. No previous experience is necessary and supplies will be provided. While aprons will be given to each participant to shield them from paint splatters, it is encouraged to wear clothes that might get paint on them.
