Palatine Park District Job Fair

Palatine Park District’s Job Fair will highlight various year-round, part-time, and seasonal positions offered by the District. During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to meet supervisors and learn more about the many positions the Park District has to offer.

Jobs range from entry level to experience required and some jobs have age restrictions and other require passing a physical and drug screen. All employees will go through a background check. Full-Time Opportunities

Superintendent of Recreation

Responsibilities: The Superintendent of Recreation is appointed by and reports to the Executive Director. This position is responsible for the overall administration of the Recreation Department. This includes but is not limited to managing department functions and operations, fiscal management, and the maintenance and development of the District’s recreation programs, events, and services. Additional duties include building cooperative partnerships with community groups, affiliates and athletics, special interest groups, and District personnel.

Current programming areas within the Recreation Department include preschool, parent/tot, early childhood, youth and teen, athletics, cultural arts, aquatics, gymnastics, fitness classes, summer camps, and special events.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a BA/BS in Parks and Recreation, Business, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; CPRP preferred, minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience in parks and recreation or comparable experience; minimum five (5) of these years with management of full time staff and leadership experience.

Internship Opportunities

Student Internship (Summer 2019)

Job Summary: Palatine Park District is offering a comprehensive and rewarding internship program to students working towards a degree in recreation or similar field. Interns will be exposed to all operations of the Park District and is able to visualize how each department and employee is an integral part of the District as a whole. The amount of time a student intern spends in any specific area is determined by student’s goals, objectives, strengths, areas of interest, areas of needed growth and the season in which the internship takes place. Palatine Park District is uniquely qualified to provide the best possible internship experience because of all our amenities and professional staff.

Responsibilities: The student must fulfill the duties as outlined by their college or university. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed. Interns will perform a majority of duties according to general policies and guidelines established by the Park District including the following:

  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of a variety of activities within the recreation, facilities and parks departments.
  • Assist in the supervision of programs, part-time/seasonal staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain positive public relations with all participants, staff and volunteers.

Qualifications: Pursuing a bachelors or master’s degree in the field of recreation from an accredited university/college. All necessary requirements must be met with respective educational institution to be eligible. Must have strong communication, computer, leadership and organizational skills. Seasonal Opportunities

Baseball/Softball Umpire (Palatine Community Baseball & Softball)

Job Summary: Palatine Community Baseball Softball (PCBS), formerly Palatine Youth Baseball/Softball, is looking for softball and baseball umpires for the 2019 season. There are umpiring opportunities for all levels of experience from beginners through IHSA “patched” umpires. Umpire training is provided and mandatory for new umpires beginning in February.

Qualifications: Those interested in becoming a PCBS umpire must possess a general understanding of baseball and softball and be willing to gain a better understanding of the games. You must turn 14 years old by May 1, and any individual under the age of 16 must be able to obtain a workers permit in order to umpire. Training begins the week of February 18 and concludes March 20. Games begin mid-April and run through mid-July.

Boys Youth Lacrosse Coach (Penguins Lacrosse)

Responsibilities & Qualifications: Penguins Lacrosse is seeking part-time coaches for boys U9, U11, U13 and U15 teams. Prior experience as a player and coach are strong considerations. Camp Staff (Summer 2019)

Responsibilities: Camp starts in the beginning of June, with training dates at the end of May. Camp runs through August 2, 2019. Applicants are asked to commit to the entire nine weeks of camp and allow two days off. Applicants should enjoy working with children and like being outside. Cart/Range Attendant (Palatine Hills Golf Course)

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Golf Professional(s), the Cart/Range Attendant is responsible for the upkeep of the cart fleet and driving range, including other duties related to the facilities and the equipment of the Palatine Hills Golf Course.

Celtic Soccer Referee

Responsibilities: To assure that the games take place in accordance with the established rules of the game, to intervene minimally and avoid conflict, to establish and maintain a good atmosphere so as to make the game as enjoyable as possible, to show an interest in the players, and support players as the level permits.

Qualifications: Familiar knowledge of soccer and the games rules and regulation, complete the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Grade 8 certification clinic, ability to concentrate in a situation with possible distraction, and ability to make decisions quickly and fairly.

Celtic Turf Field Supervisor

Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Facilities Coordinator the Celtic Field Supervisors will be responsible for the upkeep and supervision of Celtic Fields. Unlock entrance gates, and moving/securing goals when needed. Insure proper fields are lighted per schedule and perform frequent walk-through inspections of turf conditions. Box Office Manager

Responsibilities: Box Office Manager is a customer service, data management, and accounting position at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center. As well as being fully trained and operational with the Box Office Concierge position, the Box Office Manager shall be responsible for assisting patrons with special needs and desires, process refunds to patrons when necessary, collecting data from Park District programs and rentals for box office ticketing and social media sites, maintaining and keeping ticketing site up to date with current and future events, processing weekly payout and check disbursement reports, processing adjusting journal entries for Park District programs, processing weekly subscription season summary reports, processing monthly revenue reports, compiling ticket sales data for end of show reports, keeping weekly log of ticket fee expenses and order fee income, deliver cash/check deposits to Registrar at Community Center, build and order seasonal brochure for patrons detailing upcoming events, keep lobby literature rack clean and organized, maintain theatre marquee schedule and keep up to date, collect information for Park District seasonal catalog and submit events in the facility, build comp code reports upon event producer’s request, maintain box office concierge schedule, organize concierge timesheets and prepare for processing, build event pricing structure in ticketing software, build coupon codes for pricing discounts at producer’s request, process Event Information Forms when received from producers, update and send out monthly e-newsletter to subscribers, supervising concierges and keeping them up to date with information on new programs and events so that they may best serve guests of the performing arts center. Box Office Manager position is a part-time, year-round position reporting to the Theatre Coordinator.

Qualifications: College degree with theatre related fields preferred, but not required. At least High School diploma and two (2) years experience in customer service or related field recommended, but not required. Ability to self-direct, multi-task, troubleshoot, problem solve, follow directions, meet deadlines and effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ticketing system requires basic knowledge and comfortable with Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet. Ability to resolve differences and situations that arise with patrons and work together with other Park District employees. Ability to multi-task and attention to detail essential. Knowledge of working with Microsoft Excel and Word, social networking, website maintenance is preferred. Successful criminal background check and drug screen prior to employment. Dance Instructor (Health and Recreation Center)

Responsibilities: Palatine Park District is seeking a friendly, energetic, dependable, and creative instructor to teach dance classes for the Continuing Education program at Health and Recreation Center on the Harper College campus. The program will offer a variety of dance styles. Instructors should lead by example in a variety of areas, such as (but not limited to) responsibility, motivation, professionalism and punctuality. Facility Attendant (Community Center)

Responsibilities & Qualifications: The Facility Attendant is responsible for timely room and gymnasium set ups for rentals such as: volleyball, private parties, classes, preschool, special events, and other Palatine Park District events. The Facility Attendant is also responsible for basic custodial duties throughout the building including but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, interior window cleaning, removing trash, wiping down counter tops and tables, and light dusting.

Qualifications: Previous custodial experience is a plus. Responsibilities: Part-time, year-round position responsible for day-to-day facility functions and upkeep of the facility. Gymnastics Instructor

Responsibilities & Qualifications: Palatine Park District Gymnastics Club, an Illinois program established since 1977, is recruiting experienced Gymnastics Instructors. The District’s club is seeking qualified instructors to teach beginner to advanced intermediate girls, beginning to intermediate boys, and a Boys USAG Qualified Team Level Coach (Levels 4-8). We are looking for part-time staff who have the ability of working up to 25 hours per week. Opportunities are available at any time between 7:00am and 9:00pm. Lifeguard (Health and Recreation Center)

Responsibilities: The Health and Recreation Center Pool Lifeguard position is a year-round job with part-time hours; including, but not limited to: working during the school year and summer months. Lifeguards ensure the safety of our aquatic customers by scanning the pool, preventing accidents, enforcing the rules and appropriately responding to emergency situations. In addition, lifeguards assist in teaching swimming skills to customers of all ages. All employees must attend monthly in-service training sessions.

Qualifications: The minimum age for Lifeguards is 15 years of age. Applicants who are under 16 years of age, must provide a valid work permit by the first day of work. Current Certification in American Red Cross is required in order work as a lifeguard. Lifeguards must be able to meet a minimum 20/30 uncorrected or best-corrected binocular vision. The ideal candidate will be mature, responsible and have a great attitude. The candidate should enjoy working with people and have the ability to effectively communicate with children and adults.

Locker Room Attendant (Health and Recreation Center)

Responsibilities: Locker Room Attendant is responsible for supervising the locker room area, escorting students through the locker room area, keeping the pool deck organized and clean, assisting with organizing lesson materials, familiarizing self with pool information and Park District policies and procedures, assisting with First Aid as necessary, prepared to respond to emergency situations, and other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager.

Qualifications: Customer service experience is preferred. A successful criminal background check, pre-employment physical and drug screen is required prior to hire.

Technical Theatre Supervisor (Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center)

Responsibilities: Technical Theatre Supervisor is the supervisory-level class within the Theater Technician series and will be jointly responsible for all technical theatre aspects of the performing related venues and activities, supervise, train, and schedule the Theatre Technicians (Tech I and Tech II), be required to display a flexible attitude to the work and will be required to undertake varying roles, as dictated by venue activity and technical theatre requirements. The TTS will complete their assigned duties and responsibilities in an exemplary manner; provide technical support and operation, and other related technical needs at various venues as may be used by staff. The TTS will serve as the technical representative to groups using the facilities; coordinate with production companies and other organizations using the facility to assess and plan for the technical needs for events and activities, and schedule the proper Theatre Technicians on staff to work the necessary shifts. The TTS will assess theatre technical equipment needs for repair, maintenance, and/or new purchases. The TTS will research and recommend to the Theatre Coordinator needed course of action, specific equipment to be repaired or purchased, and obtain required quotes.

Qualifications: Equivalent to the completion of an Associate Degree in Theatre, Audio Engineering and/or Lighting Design or related field supplemented by coursework or training in theatre operations, performing arts, or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre, Audio Engineering and/or Lighting Design, or related field is preferred. At least two years of experience in a position leading with other technicians in performing technical theatre operations in a performing arts facility is preferred.

Theatre Technician I (Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center)

Responsibilities: Tech I will facilitate the set up and operation of performance-related equipment at the venues including lighting and sound equipment, and other technical systems used during rehearsal, performances, and various events. Knowledge of this equipment and their operation is preferred. Tech I will do basic programming of lighting and sound. Tech I should have the ability to self-direct, multi-task, troubleshoot, problem solve, follow directions, meet deadlines and effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Principles and practices of theatre stage rigging, scenery design and construction, and the basic principles of operational characteristics of computer hardware and software are a plus.

Qualifications: Equivalent to the completion of the 10th grade supplemented by coursework or training in Theatre operations, performing arts, or a related field is required. An Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in Theatre or related field is preferred. Some experience working in a theatrical environment is desirable with at least two years of experience in a position performing technical operations in a performing arts facility (High School experience is acceptable.)

Theatre Technician II & Lead Tech (Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center)

Responsibilities: In addition to the Tech Level I responsibilities (see separate description), the Tech II will do advanced design and programming of lighting equipment, sound equipment, and facilitate the use of other technical systems and troubleshoot and resolve problems with production equipment. Tech II may train, monitor, and oversee the work of Tech I staff, temporary, and volunteer theatre personnel in the proper and safe operation of theatre equipment. Required abilities for a Tech II are effective communication and interpersonal skills; basic IT proficiency; the ability to lead a team in a production situation; a thorough understanding and working knowledge of theatre lighting and sound technology and equipment; basic electrical safety; a working knowledge of digital lighting desks (ETC Gio a plus), and digital sound desks (Yamaha CL-5 and M7CL-48 a plus).
