The 2018 Sounds of Summer Concert Series lineup is here! Join us in the parks this summer for 18 performers in ’18. While the season will feature familiar acts, such as 7th Heaven and American English, this summer welcomes several new groups, including Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band, José Valdes & the Mambo All Stars, and The Nick Pontarelli Band.
All performances are free, so pack a picnic, pull up a lawn chair, and enjoy your summer music experience. The complete summer package includes Main Stage Concerts at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater on Wednesdays and Fridays, Towne Square Spotlights on Thursdays, and Friday Family Picnic Concerts at Towne Square on Fridays.

Palatine Concert Band
Under the direction of Dr. Frederick Lowe, the Palatine Concert Band is an adult volunteer organization that provides an outlet for both avocational and professional musicians to perform fine wind band literature, and serves the Chicagoland area as a musical organization of high quality.

Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band
You can call the Beach Bum Band a “Parrothead band,” because the beach, warm weather, and the island themes parallel much of the ambiance that Parrotheads enjoy. But the Beach Bum Band is not a Jimmy Buffett cover band. The band certainly plays plenty of Buffett favorites, but you’re just as likely to hear music from Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Paul Simon, Dick Dale, Jerry Jeff Walker, and many others. Their music is for everyone who enjoys warm weather.

José Valdes & the Mambo All Stars
José Valdes & the Mambo All-Stars perform exciting high energy music from Latin America, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cha- Cha, and of course Mambo and Latin Jazz. They will move you to dance and enjoy their great tropical sound.

These six outstanding musicians authentically recreate all your favorites from Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Heart, Boston, Steve Miller, Bad Company, Pat Benatar, The Cars, Elton John, and so many other rock bands from the 70’s. Featuring male & female vocals, two outstanding guitarists and a blistering rhythm section, 1976 will take you back to the decade that changed rock music forever.

Palatine Children's Chorus
Palatine Children's Chorus Summer Concert Choir, under the artistic direction of Stevee Bellas, and the Singin' in the Sun camp singers will present their annual summer concert. Please note that this concert will take place inside at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood Street, Palatine.

Band Called Catch
Band Called Catch returns to Palatine with a new record featuring all original music. Their dynamic sound has landed them bills with folks like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Crash Kings, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Drive-By Truckers, Cory Chisel and the Wandering Songs, Dawes, Joe Pug , and hundreds of other truly talented knowns and unknowns.

The Nick Pontarelli Band
The Nick Pontarelli Band has made their mark on the Chicago music scene with a fresh take on all of the greats, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Frankie Valli, Bobby Darin, Elvis, Neil Diamond and many more. Enjoy a night filled with your favorite songs performed the way you know and love them. Nick and the bands unique ability to entertain keeps the crowd excited and dancing all night long.

Allegro Community Chorus
Palatine Park District’s Allegro Community Chorus, under the artistic direction of Kevin Kelly, presents another main stage summer performance at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater. Come see this fast-growing chorus of talented community members blend their voices and fill the band shell with choral arrangements of the season.

Relive the days of the Beatles! Using instruments identical to those used by the legendary group, this Palatine favorite has an uncanny ability to reproduce the vocal style and harmonies of the Beatles. Not only will they bring back fond memories for those who were there, but they bring to life the sounds of those who never had a chance to see the Fab Four live.

Get ready for an experience you just have to see and hear! 7th Heaven has charted #1 on the Midwest Billboard Charts three times in the past three years. The band has been heard on over 7 radio stations in Chicagoland with their hits “Stoplight,” “Better This Way,” and “Sing.” Also known for the famous “30 Songs in 30 Minutes” medley featuring tunes from the 70’s and 80’s.

If you're a fan of Ed Sheeran and Tracy Chapman, you will enjoy music by local folk/pop/rock singer-songwriter Dennis Florine. Florine has released two award-winning albums in the past five years and has received nationwide distribution. Dennis performs with passion and charm. His love for music and its power to transform people's lives is evident in every note.

Harper College Jazz Lab Band
Harper College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Ken Spurr is a large Jazz Combo where students learn to improvise while performing great jazz repertory. They enjoy performing songs by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver as well as in Latin Jazz songs. Their group is made up of piano, guitars, bass, drums, horns and vocalists.

Ukulele infused rootsy folk rock is one way of describing the vibration Kevin Presbrey is casting out there these days, but you could also very well say that his songs have a way of giving you that cozy feeling of being snuggled up by the fireplace in your favorite hooded sweatshirt. Embracing the influences of storytellers Jim Croce, Don McLean, and Van Morrison along with modern troubadours Ryan Adams and James Bay, Presbrey's midwestern sound and personality is the vehicle for the stories he lives and shares.

Encore Circle Membership
Join the Sounds of Summer Encore Circle and keep the music playing all summer long! Each summer, the Palatine Park District is proud to offer free outdoor entertainment at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater and Towne Square. In order to keep this popular benefit for residents going, an annual membership program has been launched to allow patrons to get involved.
Donors contributing $25 or more will receive a one year membership, including recognition for their support this year in our 2019 Sounds of Summer program book, the opportunity to vote on 2019 donation gift items, and participate in an entertainment survey to select next summer’s bands. Donations will help enhance the quality of free entertainment provided and support the ongoing growth of our annual concert series.
