Palatine Park District’s Youth & Teen programming features a variety of specialty classes for ages 5-16. Classes offerings often harmonize with each seasonal Holiday or tradition. Popular classes include Babysitting Skills, Magic Tricks, and Self-Esteem & Leadership.
Youth & Teen
Babysitting Skills | Ages 10-14
Learn everything you need to know to be a competent babysitter. Topics covered in the class will include babysitter etiquette and priorities, age appropriate and dangerous toys, a variety of activity ideas for children, how to care for an infant, and how to handle problem situations. Representatives for the Palatine Police and Fire Departments will also discuss safety and emergency procedures.
Magic Tricks | Ages 5-12
Have a great time learning fascinating tricks from a professional magician! Children will be able to amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading, and more. While the tricks may appear difficult, kids will discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform.
Wacky Winter Wonderland | Ages 5-10

Investigate the science of winter like: making fluffy snow, exploring pine cone science, learning the anatomy and care of rabbits, along with the mystery of how icicles grow so long. Children will also have a marvelous adventure learning the science behind running a hot cocoa stand.

Come face to face with a mischievous elf as the class captures him in green goo. Children will learn how to use science to power leprechauns to do an Irish Jig. Explore eye-popping surprises as we break open his crock of gorgeous gold while learning about gravity. Master the magical history of holiday treats as we check out Lucky Charms cereal and the beloved chocolate gold coin. Explore the physics of a spring carnival as we put our leprechaun on bumper cars and learn The Laws of Motion.
St. Patrick’s Day Slimeology Lab | Ages 6-12

Have the slime of your life with St. Patrick’s Day themed slime! Kids will make goo and then customize it at the concoction center to please their senses. Get crazy and gear up with goggles, test tubes, and more for this extremely messy experience. Play with 15 different kinds of slime and Splat Balls too. All kids go home with a test tube of slime as a souvenir.
April Fool’s Day | Ages 6-12

Learn the history and science of the comedic, strange, and tricky April Fools’ Day! We will investigate over 20 pranks and all kids will take a prank toy home as a souvenir! It will also be revealed how the best pranks are creative and not mean spirited. This is the perfect crash course in acting too…..use critical thinking to stage and act out your pranks to make them believable.
