Palatine Concert Band “Dances Around the World!”

The Palatine Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Frederick Lowe, performs its concert “Dances Around the World” on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine.
Palatine Concert Band invites you to an afternoon of rhythm, elegance, and energy as we present a program devoted to the art of dance in its many varied forms. From the spirited traditions of Eastern Europe to the refined grace of English courtly dance, from heartfelt American lyricism to the infectious pulse of Cuban rhythms, this concert will have something for every listener to enjoy.

Our program features:

  • Dmitri Shostakovich – Folk Dances: Brimming with color, wit, and Russian flair.
  • Benjamin Britten – “The Courtly Dances” from Gloriana: Regal elegance straight from the opera stage.
  • Warren Benson – The Solitary Dancer: An introspective work full of quiet, poised energy.
  • Norman Dello Joio – Satiric Dances: Wry humor and charm in three delightful movements.
  • John Philip Sousa – With Pleasure: A rare ragtime-style gem of Sousa’s lighter side.
  • Percy Grainger – Colonial Song: A touching tribute, performed in honor of Carol Dickenson, a member of the band’s trumpet section.
  • Jonathan Newman – Single:  A “bubble gum” pop tune expanded to concert proportions.
  • Robert Sheldon – Danzas Cubanas: Irresistible rhythms that capture the spirit of the dance floor.

The program promises a lively journey through the myriad ways composers have brought the joy of dance into the concert hall.
