Palatine Park District’s athletics programming consists of archery, basketball, lacrosse, martial arts, soccer, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, a variety of athletic leagues, and more. See Parent & Tot for ages 1-3 classes and Early Childhood for ages 3-6 classes.

Archery

Register Online for Archery Programs

Archery | Ages 8+
Join Ken Walther, National Archery Association Level III Regional High Performance Coach, to learn the exciting sport of archery. The instructor will follow the National Archery Association Junior Olympic Development program which includes safety, shooting, and equipment. Parents are encouraged to register and participate with their child. All equipment for this program will be provided; however, you may use your own equipment with the approval of the instructor.

Basketball

Register Online for Basketball Programs

Team MSL Basketball Clinic | 1st – 8th Grades
The philosophy of this clinic is to introduce the fundamentals of basketball. Skills will be taught through drills, group games, and actual game situations.

Girls Basketball Clinic | 1st – 4th Grades
Girls basketball clinic is designed to develop fundamental skills such as dribbling, shooting, and passing. Scrimmage games will also be played.

Lacrosse

Register Online for Lacrosse Programs

Palatine Penguin Boys Youth Lacrosse | Ages 5-14
A travel lacrosse team for first-eighth grade boys. All levels of players are invited to learn the game of lacrosse and compete with towns throughout the Illinois Boys Lacrosse Association (IBLA). The program provides structured training and development from beginners to experienced players. The surrounding towns of Arlington heights, Rolling Meadows, and others provide great depth to the program. Practices are 2-3 days a week depending on the team and level. A combine is run in early spring to determine the player’s skills sets and set the teams.

Girls Lacrosse Clinic | Ages 5.5-8
Introduces and develops basic skills using fun games and coaching techniques. Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association (IGLA) uses soft balls so a stick is the only equipment required to play. A parent meeting is held after the first clinic to answer all questions.

Boys Lacrosse Clinic | Ages 8.5-14
Boys will participate in an hour of non-stop lacrosse action at this clinic each week. We will focus on reinforcing basic-intermediate lacrosse fundamentals through fun drills, games, and competitions. Players must bring their own equipment. Full equipment required includes helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, mouth guard, and a stick.

 

Martial Arts

Register Online for Martial Arts Programs

Adult Karate | Ages 13+
Classes release tension, develop total body fitness and build stamina and overall productivity! In addition to self-defense skills, karate increases flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and muscle tone while improving core strength.

Budo Aikijutsu | Ages 7+
Self-defense training covers a wide variety of unarmed and armed attack simulations with emphasis on controlling the attacker, self-defense options, and prevention and awareness pointers. Defenses are based upon the principles of physics which allow a smaller and weaker person to overcome a larger and stronger attacker.

Fencing | Ages 8+
Combines coordination of relaxed and explosive moves, and critical thinking between attack and defensive strategies. All equipment provided. Beginner and advanced classes available. Parents are encouraged to fence with their child and receive family discount at time of registration.

Martial Arts & Tae Kwon Do Family Class | Ages 7+
Train in kicking drills, footwork, self-defense, push ups, agility training, forms, sparring, and more. Simultaneously, participants will learn important life skills in respect, focus, self control, and discipline. As a first time student, participants will receive complimentary first test and uniform.

Parent/Child Karate | Ages 7+
Condition muscles, developing coordination, and improving cardiovascular fitness while spending quality together. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes available.

Samurang Sword Training Family Class | Ages 10+
Participants receive instruction in the basics of sword training and fundamental cutting skills, fencing, self-defense, and more. As a first time student, participants will receive complimentary first test and uniform.

Tae Kwon Do For Teens and Adults | Ages 13+
Train in kicking drills, footwork, self-defense, strikes, agility and plyometric training, forms, sparring, ab work, push ups, and more. All levels welcome.

Children’s Boxing | Ages 5-14
Learn basic boxing techniques and improve cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, self-confidence, and discipline.

Hapkido | Ages 13+
A dynamic martial art focusing on self-defense strategies which involves joint locks, releases, grappling, take downs, pressure points, kicks, and strikes. This easy to learn martial art is designed to easily subdue an opponent, regardless of their size. As a first time student, participants will receive complimentary first test and uniform.

Light Saber Jedi | Ages 6+
Learn light saber forms, drills, skills, and more! First time students will receive a light saber and uniform jacket. Questions? Call GrandMaster Wood at 847.705.8714.

Pre Karate Safety | Ages 4-7
Young children will develop agility, strength, and coordination skills through fun and creative activities. Specifically designed to work with growing minds and bodies, also to enhance memory and agility skills.

Youth Brazilian Jiu Jitzu | Ages 5-13
Designed to help children develop and apply genuine self-defense skills, agility, coordination, strength, and more. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does not rely on size, strength or speed and uses a combination of submissions, escapes, and defensive techniques to neutralize dangerous situations.

Youth Karate/Safety | Ages 5-13
Offering a good mix of strength training, along with cardiovascular and flexibility exercises. Children increase their coordination, agility, and poise while learning lasting personal safety skills. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes available.

Soccer

Register Online for Soccer Programs

Little Celtic Soccer Academy | Ages 3-4
Creative and fun approaches used to introduce age appropriate soccer fundamentals. All participants will be engaged in many soccer activities and exercises that work on a child’s motor development skills (jumping, balance, and body fakes). Instructed by Palatine Celtic Soccer Club Staff.

 

Tennis

Register Online for Tennis Programs

Adult Tennis Lessons | Ages 18+
Learn the fundamentals of hitting consistent ground strokes and sound footwork. Develop basic skills and tactics while incorporating court positioning and consistency. Improve power and strategy in both singles and doubles. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes available.

Little Netters & Netters Youth Tennis Lessons | Ages 4-6
Youngsters are introduced to the world of tennis in this basic skills class. Movement and tracking skills are taught, but the emphasis is on having fun and establishing a positive tennis experience.

Half Volleys Youth Tennis Lessons | Ages 6-9
Beginners increase their net performance as they continue to learn tennis fundamentals. Class helps students enhance motor and racquet skills, while still allowing them to enjoy the game.

Baseliners Youth Tennis Lessons | Ages 6-13
Students continue to develop their game, while refining their basic skills. Using situational drills and games, this class helps students establish a solid foundation for future development and incorporates strategy.

High School Tennis Lessons | Ages 14-18
Focus on balance, footwork, and mental alertness. Students will also be taught strategies for both singles and doubles competition. This class is intended for high school students that enjoy tennis for recreation.

Volleyball

Register Online for Volleyball Programs

Volleykidz | Ages 6-9
Introduces pass, set, and spike using a very light volleyball. Instructors will aim to improve each child’s hand/eye coordination and left/right coordination through the use of fun drills and gross motor games. Lesson plan also incorporates short educational drills including spelling, math, and science.

Junior EVP Volleyball Skills & Drills | Ages 11-14
Learn to overhand serve and develop a good understanding of each position on offense and defense. Lesson plan directs the use of self-mastery training as well as game situation drills that help each student excel during volleyball games. Instructors will organize games at the end of each class.

Youth EVP Volleyball Skills & Drills | Ages 9-10
Improve skills with 60 minutes of drills in setting, passing, overhand serving and spiking. Lesson plan directs the use of self-mastery training and groups that help each student reach a new level. Incorporates short educational drills including spelling, math, and science. Instructors organize short games at the end of each class.

Wrestling

Register Online for Wrestling Programs

Cobra Wrestling Club | Ages 5-14
Under the direction of head varsity coach at Palatine High School, Dan Collins, and head varsity coach at Fremd High School, Dan Ruettiger. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the skills needed to compete in the sport of wrestling. Children of all levels, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to participate and will have the opportunity to compete in various weekend tournaments. Practices stress fundamentals, technique, safety and sportsmanship. Headgear and singlets will be provided for use.
